The best supplement ingredients for healing acne as recommended by an esthetician.
If there’s one thing I’m asked just about every day when I’m treating clients, it’s “what vitamins and supplements should I be taking to clear my acne?” Spoiler alert: It’s not biotin–or worse–sea moss.
I always tell my clients to be careful with adding new herbs and supplements to your diet in the name of being “healthier.” What you put into your body can have a big impact on your skin, and if you’ve never tried something before, you don’t know how your skin will react to it. Even further, if you have a seafood allergy, sea moss is the last thing you want to digest. It actually makes acne inflammation worse!
But to answer the question, here are the skin-friendly, holistic ingredients I recommend to help fight acne breakouts from the inside out.
NOTE: Women who are pregnant or nursing should always consult with their doctor before taking any supplements.
Zinc-a powerful anti-inflammatory known to calm breakouts, and encourage the production of collagen for tighter skin and a more youthful appearance.
Milk thistle-improves inflammatory conditions and balances the skin’s moisture, reducing dryness and flakiness.
Omega 3-a skincare superfood! Omega-3s help to regulate the skin’s production of oil and improve balanced hydration so it isn't too oily or dry. This is important for eliminating flakiness and the appearance of wrinkles.
Vitamin A- This helps to heal scarring and irritation from existing breakouts so they don’t lead to dark spots. Vitamin A also reinforces hydration for a glowing complexion.
Copper- A powerful anti-aging agent, copper promotes collagen production and elasticity within the skin, reducing wrinkles and other aging symptoms.
Another warning: Watch the sugar content! Sugar is a huge acne trigger so beware of adding supplements to your diet that have a lot of added sugar.
