Wellness Awareness Month - Skin by Brownlee & Co.

Wellness Awareness Month

August is National Wellness Awareness Month and wellness is one of my favorite topics because it’s so critical to clear, healthy skin. When we focus on overall wellness, we cover all of the life balances we need for our healthy state to radiate from our skin.

What is wellness, though?

Wellness is directly related to your lifestyle habits: what you do to maintain physical and mental health. It’s your daily choices in food, physical activity, and how you handle stress. When we talk about having consistently clear skin and treating challenges like acne, psoriasis, eczema, and others, none of that happens without making lifestyle changes for overall wellness.

As a skin expert, I always pair my skincare products with suggestions for a healthier lifestyle for all of my clients. You can’t separate wellness from healthy skin, even with the best skincare products. Here are three lifestyle changes you can make for better wellness and better skin.

Change your dietary habits

This is a tough pill for many to swallow because not everyone’s skin has adverse effects from poor eating habits. But if you struggle with breakouts, acne, or pretty much any other challenge with your skin, start with changing your diet.

That means avoid processed foods and limit your intake of alcohol, dairy, processed sugar, and gluten.

Get active and sweat

Working out, walking, jogging, joining a fitness class, jumping rope or whatever you do to stay active is a great way to sweat, and sweating clears the pores of dirt, oil, and debris. If you aren’t sweating often, your pores are holding on to all of those toxins that don’t always wash away with your facial cleanser. Of all the reasons to stay active, clear skin is a good one!

Manage your stress

Stress happens. We can’t control every occurrence in our lives, but we can find healthy, effective ways to manage how we feel. Instead of drinking, doing drugs, suppressing your emotions, or binge eating, try doing yoga, working out, journaling, meditating, or just taking some deep breaths.

These lifestyle changes aren’t easy, but the results are worth it. When you have skin struggles, it’s easy to get frustrated and just want a quick fix, which products from Skin By Brownlee and Co can certainly be. But consistently clear, healthy skin starts from the inside out and by investing in your general wellness.
